Overview
In 2024 the Louisiana State Legislature created Lafitte Greenway Development District (LGDD). The purpose of the district is to support investments in the Lafitte Greenway as well as in Greenway-adjacent communities for projects such as stormwater management, affordable housing, small/minority business support, and bicycle/pedestrian infrastructure and amenities.
Although the LGDD has been created, it currently has no revenue sources or taxing/bonding authorities or otherwise has any effect on existing property owners/residents.
The LGDD is governed by a Board of Commissioners (composed of local elected officials, or their designees) who will explore various possible revenue sources and identity funding priorities.
The LGDD is separate from the Lafitte Greenway Partnership (LGP), which is the nonprofit organization that assists the city in programing and management of the Lafitte Greenway. However, LGP are strong supporters of the LGEDD in order to bring new resources and investments to the Greenway and adjacent communities.
