We would like to express our gratitude towards NORD and Parks & Parkways for aiding us in the cutback of 3.35 acres of bioswales on the Greenway. These bioswales help collect stormwater and allow rain to drain slowly back into the soil, helping to mitigate flooding in the surrounding neighborhoods. We’d also like to thank our friends over at Benton Tree Service for helping us trim the pesky willow tree branches that hung low over the trail. We are thrilled and honored to announce that Friends of Lafitte Greenway received support from the New Orleans City Council Recreation and Culture Fund to support and expand our recreational and cultural programming on the Greenway in 2024. We would especially like to thank Councilmembers J.P. Morrell, Eugene Green, and Joe Giarrusso for their leadership and support. Little Amal Walks the Greenway

Big Announcement for the Greenway!

In March 2023, the Greater New Orleans Foundation launched the Next 100 Years Challenge to strengthen infrastructure and hazard mitigation solutions and build a safer, more equitable Southeast Louisiana for the next 100 years. We are are thrilled to be part of the 10 organizations that received a $100,000 grant from the Next 100 Years Challenge! Thank you to the Greater New Orleans Foundation for this huge honor. N. Carrollton HAWK signal is LIVE!

New N. Carrollton HAWK signals LIVE! Crossing the Greenway at North Carrollton has just gotten much safer. As of this week, there are new pedestrian hybrid beacons (HAWK signals) at this intersection.  When activated by pedestrians/cyclists, the lights will flash yellow– alerting drivers to slow down– then turn to a solid red light, like a standard red light. Motorists are required to come to a full stop to allow pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross the street. “GROW!” Lafitte Greenway Restoration Project Announced: 1,000 Cypress Tree Forest and Pollinator Flower Meadows

March 28, 2022, NEW ORLEANS, LA – Cypress tree forest and pollinator meadows are coming to the Lafitte Greenway!
