Lafitte Greenway Economic Development District

economic development district

In 2024, the Louisiana State Legislature created the Lafitte Greenway Economic Development District to explore mechanisms to capture some of the incredible value being created around the Greenway and dedicate it to improvements in the Greenway and in Greenway-adjacent communities for affordable housing, small business support, stormwater management, and bike/ped infrastructure.  According to data compiled by New Orleans Business Alliance and Lafitte Greenway Partnership (LGP), there has been over $360 million in new development in this district since the Greenway was built in 2015.
Although the LGEDD has been created, it currently has no revenue sources or taxing/bonding authorities or otherwise has any effect on existing property owners/residents. Now that the LGEDD has been established, the next steps are to seat a Board of Commissioners (appointed by local elected officials) who will then establish bylaws, explore various possible revenue sources, and explore possible projects/programs to fund.
Although the LGEDD is separate from the LGP, we are strong supporters of the LGEDD in order to bring new resources and investments to the Greenway and adjacent communities.
*Note: Armstrong Park was removed from the final boundaries as is not a part of the LGEDD
